HMS BOUNTY
If I were to write about her
what would I say?
I could say she was beautiful.
One of the most magnificent things I've ever seen.
That she was a ship that brought great Joy to people
as she sailed into Harbors
with full sails on the wind.
I could talk about all the hearts she warmed,
and smiles she brought on children's faces.
The folks who met, fell in love,
said vows on the ship.
Would I write about where she was
when I first saw her.
A place far away from the rest of the world.
If one were to escape from a former life,
from an earlier existence,
this would be the place, far from one's past.
A place where the road ends, and new journeys begin.
A cold north shore where two lands meet
where wide, cold, open bays, meet beautiful skies.
Or perhaps, I could say more
to open one's heart.
I could write when I first saw her
The ship ... and the girl.
Both alone on the dock, waiting.
How she steered the mighty ship up the coast
fearless, strong, following A Star to Steer By
wondering where the adventure would lead.
Would I talk of Coyote Medicine
and how it brought us together.
Taking us down a road we didn't know we were on,
to exactly where we needed be.
Two Native bloods far away from their homeland
with new Joined Hands and Opening Hearts.
I might write of how she brought me back to the water.
How she cured my fears of the ponds,
of the lakes,
of the mighty seas.
How she warmed my heart and brought me tears.
How our roller coaster ride took us so many places,
close and far. Of magical tall ships on the sea,
of manatee, and dolphins
of perfectly made morning coffee
of pleasant dinners
and sunsets reflecting in the wine.
So many dreams realized,
so many tragedies found,
so much to heal along the way.
And finally healing ... and peace.
If I were to write about her.
The ship and the girl.
What would I say?
Maybe just to say...
It was a long time ago in a far far away place,
with a fairy tale ship and a star to steer by.
